50th Aniversary Celebration 14th May 2022
What a success! After the Pandemic
had caused the postponement of the planned 2020 Celebration the
event finally took place on 14th May 2022.
Starting with Prosecco welcoming drinks
with a chance to chat and socialise we moved on to a superb 2 course
buffet style sit down meal.
Chairman Barbara welcomed everyone and
said how the Society had survived the challenging years of
lockdowns, but, with an encouraging current membership of over 80,
was now returning in strength. Barbara also recognised the
service of some of those present who have been members for over 27
years.
Paddy Holmes, our Patron, told us about
the inauguration of the Society in 1970 by first Principal, Jennings
Wood, stating the objectives and aims that were laid down. One of
the Rules stated that the Society will be open to all abilities and
that the programme would always include tuition. Paddy
emphasised the necessity for members to take responsibility in the
running of the Society to ensure its future continuation.
We were then entertained by the Havant
Light Opera company who sang a variety of music hall type of songs -
some of which we joined in with!- followed by excerpts from The
Pirates of Penzance.

Barbara was presented with a trifle dish and a trifle mix to go with it.
